What Does The GMC P1406 Code Mean?

Engine started; and the PCM/CM detected the EGR Position sensor signal was out-of-range EGR Position, or that the EGR Position sensor signal indicated more than 10% above the Desired EGR Position with the EGR solenoid commanded to 0%.

What Are The Potential Causes Of The GMC P1406 Code?

  • EGR solenoid control circuit is open, shorted to ground or to B+
  • EGR solenoid power circuit is open (check the ENG1 fuse)
  • EGR solenoid is damaged or has failed
  • PCM has failed
  • TSB 76-65-04 contains a repair procedure for this code
