Honda P3497: Valve Pause System (VPS) Stuck Off (Bank 2)
OVERVIEWWhat Does The Honda P3497 Code Mean?
With the engine running in closed loop, and in 5th gear at a steady speed of 68 mph or more for 5 seconds. When the PCM sends ON (Open) or OFF (Close) command to the rocker arm oil control solenoid A (Bank 2) the rear rocker arm oil pressure switch detects a malfunction.
What Are The Potential Causes Of The Honda P3497 Code?
- Poor connections or loose terminals at rocker arm oil control solenoid A (Bank 1), rocker arm oil control solenoid B (Bank 1), the rear rocker arm oil pressure switch, and the PCM
- Low or diluted engine oil
- Clogged oil passage of the rear bank cylinder pause system
- “Short” circuit between the PCM and the rear rocker arm oil pressure switch
- Faulty rear rocker arm oil pressure switch
- PCM may need to be updated with the latest software
- Faulty PCM
